Lake of the Ozarks is one of the most popular resort areas in the Midwest. People from neighboring states drive hundreds of miles on weekends or holidays to enjoy golfing, boating, camping, swimming, water skiing, shopping, dining, or just relaxing. The Lake has something for everyone, and is a wonderful vacation spot for both young and old to enjoy.

Resort areas tend to fall into two categories: expensive and elegant, or inexpensive and rustic. Neither of those categories is a place where typically one would live permanently. However, at the Lake of the Ozarks, there is a very comfortable balance between amenities and expense, and there are extensive facilities available that make the Lake an ideal place to live, as well as to vacation. From young families to retirees, there is something for everyone to enjoy while living at the Lake!

The Lake of the Ozarks is about 90 miles long in its main channel. With its winding path and numerous coves, the lake contains more than 1,100 miles of shoreline, which is more than the coast of California. One of the most popular areas of the lake for finding a home is along the 30 miles of lakefront beginning at the Bagnell Dam and extending south to Camdenton. Cost of living in this area is relatively inexpensive, particularly for a resort area. A variety of homes is available that will accommodate just about anyone from a growing family to a retired couple.   Utilities and taxes are reasonable, and the presence of permanent residents and close-by cities tends to keep prices from being inflated. Further, not only are there recreational activities available, but also there are excellent schools, extensive shops and stores, theaters, a regional hospital, and professional services to meet almost any day-to-day requirements. For additional needs, Jefferson City is an easy 30 minutes away, Columbia is an hour, and Springfield is an hour and a half.
